Well-Child Wednesdays

Posted by Scott  filed under Child Wellness

HRSA Health Center Program promotes efforts supporting well-child visits and immunizations.  They also cite CDC data indicating fewer children are receiving timely immunizations this year compared to 2019 due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Fewer office visits, reluctance to seek preventive care due to risk of infection, and increased uncertainty all contribute to this decline.  Likewise, declines in vaccination coverage as employer-sponsored plan enrollment decreases with rising unemployment can leave young children and communities vulnerable to otherwise preventable diseases like measles.

HRSA is promoting awareness via social media on their  Facebook page and Twitter account.  They ask us to share, use and follow #WellChildWednesdays to stay involved in the conversation.  As the world anxiously awaits the development of an effective vaccine for the Coronavirus, we should not lose sight of the importance of other vaccines and the critical role they play in keeping children healthy.

If you have any questions about vaccines, potential risks, and availability, please contact your primary care provider, pediatrician, or local health department.
